archeozoologia

Archaeozoology is a branch of bioarcheology and is the study of the faunal remains recovered from archaeological sites and past human relationships with the animal world. It enables us to obtain important information regarding:

- palaeo-environment
- modes of animal exploitation
- diet
- social status
- cultural and religious aspects

The relationship between humans and the environment, the understanding of demographic dynamics and settlement of human groups, and the economic function of an archaeological site and the food resources available to it are among the identifiable data whereby faunal analysis can contribute to historical reconstruction.
